GREAT knockabout small camera
Bottom line: this camera represents a fantastic compromise between price, portability and picture quality. For those who can't take their big DSLRs everywhere they want to take pictures, this is the best camera I've found. Folks who are moving up from point and shoots should get a "real" DSLR as their move-up camera; this thing is really for those who already have DSLRs and looking for a great 2nd camera.Likes:Image quality, feel, size, weight. Really, you get great pictures up to ISO 400 (and I'm picky), and ISO 800 is completely usable. This is my replacement for a Canon G9, and this camera is just a little bit bigger and TONS better. This is a system with multiple manufacturers. I'll be able to upgrade bodies and lenses from different companies without worrying about compatibility. Panasonic may make a better body a year or two from now -- no worries, I'll just buy it and know my lenses will just work. The 14-42 lens is really...

This is the pro photographer's point and shoot
I've been shooting with SLR's for years now. The quality for me has always overridden the fact that the systems were bulky and cumbersome to shoot with. But I had felt that the "fun" had sort of been sucked out of my photography. It's hard to be spontaneous with a large SLR and large lenses. Luckily for me, those days are over. The fun is back. The Olympus E-P2 is simply fantastic. You've got SLR quality in a near pocketable package, and the result has opened up avenues of photography that haven't been available to me in years.I've missed countless opportunities to take pictures because of the sheer mass of my SLR system and not wanting to lug it around. This little camera will stay with me more frequently and just begs to be used. You get the convenience of the point and shoot, but the quality you crave in your pictures.Pros of this camera:High ISO is really good. Pretty clean all the way up to 3200, and certainly...

This is a mildly flawed camera that is too good to get rid of.
I got mine on Saturday from a camera store here in Austin. The camera is nice and small but feels very solid. I was interested in the EP1 but could never get my mind around the practice of viewing and focusing on the back LCD screen. I was interested in this product segment because I have a collection of the Pen F half frame film cameras that this one is based on. I was very happy to learn that several people are making adapters that will allow me to use those old Pen F lenses on the EP2. I am looking forward to using two of my old favorites, the 60mm f1.5 and the 70mm f2.I took the EP2 and the kit zoom lens out for a three hour spin yesterday morning. It was 30 degrees outside and the first thing I discovered is that this is not a camera with an interface you can use with gloves on. The buttons are too small and require too much pressure with gloves. In daylight I didn't notice any real problem with focusing. It was not as slow as I was led to believe...

Screaming Deal
An E-P2 body, brand new with full factory warranty, for under $300? It's a no-brainer, esp. for those who already have a slew of m4/3s lenses and need a spare body. Took about a week to get it from Cameta, which also had free shipping.Oh yeah and this robustly-built camera takes outstanding pictures, esp. when paired with a fast prime lens like the Panasonic 20mm F1.7 or M.Zuiko 14mm F2.5. As long as you don't need a built-in flash, because like the E-P1 the E-P2 does not have one. I could not justify paying $400-500 more for an E-P3 with built in flash and slightly faster autofocus, at least yet, so this one fits the bill nicely.Very highly recommended!!!(Update 2/16/12: have used a slew of old OM lenses (w/$23 Fotodix OM-u4/3 adapter) on this fine little camera, and the results are nothing short of amazing-- especially the medium range teles like 135 F2.8 and 100 F2. Picked up a near mint 200 F4 at a camera store for under $100, and it's...

Loving it
I use this camera with the Panasonic Lumix G 20mm f1.7, and the pair is quite handsome for the price range. I'm an amateur photographer who upgraded from a point and shoot. I was going to go with an entry level DSLR but this fills the bill. RAW image quality right off the bat is awesome. And with a little bit of Photoshopping I'm getting beautiful photos. Pics can be quite grainy at ISO 1600 and above.

Product Description

The stylish retro black metal body of the PEN E-P2 may be reminiscent of a traditional rangefinder, but there's nothing traditional about this powerful camera from Olympus. The E-P2 is a 12.3-megapixel interchangeable lens camera, and it blends the high-quality still images of a DSLR with High Definition (HD) video, stereo Linear PCM audio recording and in-camera creativity – all inside an ultra-portable, easy-to-use body. The E-P2 also brings a twist to the PEN lineup: an accessory port which accommodates the optional VF-2 electronic view finder or optional external microphone adapter (SEMA-1). Top to learn more

Excellent camera at a bargain price
I don't think you can beat the value here--the excellent E-P2 camera body for less than $300. It's worth grabbing one (or more) while they're available. Personally, I've been using the E-P1 since just after the introduction and I jumped on the E-P2 at this price. The only real functional difference between the two cameras is the ability of the E-P2 to use the Olympus electronic viewfinder. I also bought one of those. The E-P2 shares the same ponderous menus as the E-P1. That's unfortunate but in reality you only have to wade through them until you have the camera set to your preferences. After that, all the vital options are available on the quick menu. The buttons and dials are a bit fiddly. The control wheel/button combination on the lower right is too easy to turn/press without meaning to--you can turn it off. The top right wheel is not in my favorite shape or placement but it's usable. Buttons are close together. The wrong one is easy to press when you have...

Olympus PEN Ep2
It took me a while to decide on which micro 4/3 I was going to get. However, I am really pleased with the purchase of the Olympus ep2. The camera body feel is unmatched - it feels very solid and well built. The photographs are simply astounding, and I really enjoy the art filters. I would definitely recommend this camera to those stepping up from point and shoot cameras.

As I expected.
I've been an Olympus user since the mid-70's. This little beauty is reminiscent of the legendary OM-1, and at a glance (without the lens extended) it could be mistaken for it. I have always been happy with Olympus cameras due to their uncompromising quality, functionality, size, and razor sharp optics. As a Fine Art Photographer, I've often wondered why Olympus didn't come out with a 6x7 format 120 film camera, though I've been satisfied with my Pentax 6x7. This little Olympus suits me just fine. I'm impressed with the video sound quality as well. Once again, as expected, Olympus came through with a wonderful little gem. I enjoy the convenience and quality of the HD video..amazing, really.

Trade-offs, but a winner all told
If you're a camera enthusiast taking pictures of vacations, pets and kids' birthday parties and willing to spend a few extra bucks on your gear, this camera is a marvel. (The video it shoots is so good that several filmmakers have made films with the E-P2 as their only camera). At its tiny size, which is comparable to high-end P&S cameras, you can't beat it. Good image stabilization, decent resolution at 12+ MP, good low-light performance, a growing range of decent interchangeable micro 4/3rds lenses. In general, the image quality is closer to a low-end DSLR than a high-end P&S if you factor in the lenses that the low-end DSLR shooter is going to purchase. The small size spares you a lot of the misery of taking a decent photographic outfit through the gauntlet of modern air travel. If you want to take decent flash pictures, you can get into the rather silly situation of using an on-camera flash unit that's bigger than the camera itself, but even that can be more convenient than...

Olympus BLS-1 Battery Charger
A very good charger. One of the features I like most of this product is that you don't need an electrical cord that plugs from the charger to the wall outlet. Convenience and easy. It charges pretty quick, a 30-minute charge on my old battery that comes originally with my DSLR camera that usually takes more than 2 hours charging with my original olympus charger. However, there is one issue that will give you heck of "a scratch-on-the-head". There are 2 thin plastic holders sticking out. These 2 plastic holders, holds the battery down and lock it but the problem is that when you place the charger in your bag, it may eventually break because they are too long to place them inside the camera bag.One solution that it might work is to place a battery on it so it will keep those thin plastic holders safe from breaking. Although it is not a guarantee but this may do the job and you can keep the product in your bag. Moreover, I recently ask the seller to replace the picture in...

Customer Review

I had this camera to review for Olympus. Here are my quick thoughts.
I asked Olympus if I could review this camera. I had written reviews for them before. To preface the review I will mention that I own several of the Olympus EP2 cameras and the EPL1 camera. While the EPL series cameras don't come with the accessory finder, VF-2, I consider it the reason to buy this camera and this family of cameras. More on that in a second. I gave this camera five stars but you should be clear that all ratings are contextual. It's not a better camera than a Nikon D3 or a Canon 1dsmk3 but it is a wonderful and very capable camera for $600 (with a lens). I consider it an $800 camera because I want to be able to use the 1.4 megapixel finder.Reasons not to buy one: 1. You shoot sports and need super fast autofocus and a very fast frame rate. 2. You rarely see daylight and want a camera that shoots noise free from 3200 ISO up. Nope, this one is not your camera.Reasons to buy one: 1. The files right out of the camera (as jpegs) are very...

A seriously good camera for its niche
I am quite surprised at how good the images are that I'm getting, especially jpegs. I'm used to shooting raw because I get better files and can squeeze a bit more juicy goodness out of my photos that in-camera jpeg processing does. Surprisingly, this camera does a great job with jpegs in good light situations. That's the important idea to keep in mind, good light. Kirk Tuck gives this camera a fine review, but realize that he's a lighting pro, who has written several (good) books on the subject.IMO this camera is targeted toward two markets. For those moving up from a point and shoot, it's wonderful. It's familiar and less intimidating than an SLR. It can create better images than even the best point and shoots. The price is reasonable. It's attractive and it's a lot lighter than an SLR. Those people wouldn't consider shooting in bad light without a flash. They wouldn't consider deliberate long exposures to smooth motion effects. Those last two areas are not the camera's...

Ideal size, easy to grip, great image quality
I've used the Oly Pen e-PL2 for over a month now (update: over 6 months) and I like it very much. I'm going to try to highlight some of its best features and also recommend some very useful accessories. And I'd also like to show you how to navigate quickly while avoiding unnecessary problems. My review will be long and detailed but will ultimately save you time. I'm a pro fine-art photographer (Dick Sanders) and I shoot medium format film cameras for "the look," but I have numerous other photo needs, and I found myself using my Nikon F100 film camera for everyday apps, which was inconvenient. I didn't want to buy a bulky DSLR for non-pro work, but I also didn't want (even the best) point-and-shoot camera with its tiny sensor. The Oly Pen e-PL2 gives you a quality four-thirds sensor in the ideal body size. And because it has both a front grip and a rear thumb rest, it's easy to hold and shoot, even with one hand. Granted, the Oly is not pocketable (except for a large jacket pocket),...

Be honest about your priorities before you buy a camera
I've had the camera for a few days now, have been going out each afternoon experimenting with it, and so far I'm very happy with the purchase. But I think there's a lot of personal taste involved in buying any expensive camera, and you should try out several cameras "live" before buying this or any other one. I'm not going to repeat the pros and cons listed in other reviews - by and large I think others have done a good job pointing those out. I'm probably the target market - I was looking seriously at a Canon G11 or a Lumix LX3 before deciding to plonk down a bit more cash for this. I am happy with this camera because my priorities are:- small size: I hike a lot, and want a light camera that will happily go in my backpack with lunch. DSLR's were just a little too too bulky for my taste. I really like the size of the camera, was willing to pay a bit extra for it. At some point I will probably spring for the 17mm "pancake" lens to trim it down even more. But when I have...

A Nice Camera But A Bit of A Mixed Bag
What do you get when you take Olympus PEN and mix it with a stripper (Of course I mean someone who strips features from a camera). You get the E-PL1 camera which is a little bit of a mixed bag. On the one hand you have one of the best versions of the m4/3 sensor to date. From what I have read it is better than both the E-P1 and E-P2 sensors. It is hard to tell the difference at normal screen and printing resolutions and I take a picture at its whole and don't pixel peep so I cannot verify that. What I can say is this camera is capable of producing world class images. Additionally, this camera has the Olympus JPEG engine which is regarded in the business as one of the best. This camera is also relatively small and light and includes a fill flash. Additionally, it has image stabilization (IS) built into the camera. It is not pocketable and the size of this camera has more to do with the lens that it is wearing then the actual camera itself. On the other hand, you...
